About Rockingham
Rockingham is a slice of paradise with one of the most beautiful coastlines in the state and local parks, schools, and foreshore to complement this thriving community.
The Rockingham Electoral District encompasses the suburbs of Cooloongup, East Rockingham, Garden Island, Hillman, Peron, Rockingham, Safety Bay, Shoalwater, and Waikiki. In the electorate, there are more than 29,000 electors, over an area of 49 square kilometres.
Rockingham is home to HMAS Stirling on Garden Island, Australia’s largest naval base. It’s also home to one of our state’s key industrial precincts, the Rockingham Industry Zone. The RIZ was the first industrial estate in Western Australia, is the largest industrial estate in Australia, and is a national leader in sustainable industrial development. This industrial zone plays a crucial role in supporting Western Australia’s economic growth and providing local job opportunities for the Rockingham community.
Rockingham is named after the ship Rockingham which ran aground in 1830 on the beach that fronts the suburb.
