About Magenta
I'm Magenta Marshall, your local Labor Member for Rockingham. I had the honour of being elected at the Rockingham By-Election in July 2023 following the resignation of our former Premier Mark McGowan.
I'm Rockingham born and raise. I grew up in a single-parent family living in Cooloongup where Mum worked hard to support us on a single income. While working in Rockingham, she met the man I now call Dad and I became the eldest daughter with two younger sisters.
I've called Rockingham home my entire life, I believe that there is truly no better place in the world to live, work, and enjoy life. In 2024, my husband and I welcomed our daughter Bowie at Rockingham Hospital, now raising a family locally here in Waikiki.
I went to school at Tranby College in Baldivis and completed a Bachelor of Arts at Murdoch University, spending time studying abroad in Indonesia where I volunteered my spare time teaching English at a school for underprivileged students.
Upon completing my degree, I worked for the Transport Workers Union where I learnt about the importance that trade unions play in delivering better workplace conditions across the industry. I then moved to working as an Electorate Officer in the McGowan Labor Government for four years, before becoming a Campaign Organiser and Director of Women’s Organising at WA.
I understand the difference Labor Governments make to everyday people's lives. Like the train line that connects the people of Rockingham with Perth, providing more opportunities for study and work. Or the upgrades to local schools and hospitals that provide quality education, health, and jobs for the community.
Throughout life, I have been driven by my passion for equality and equal access to opportunities. I want to make sure that future generations growing up in Rockingham, like I did, have access to the best education, quality jobs, and strong public healthcare.
Like many West Australians, I have a love for sports and what it provides. Sport brings people together and is a central part of any thriving community. In 2018 I started my women's soccer team to connect with other local women, and I then proudly coached the disability-inclusive junior soccer team at Baldivis Districts FC for its inaugural two seasons.
I'm a strong believer in equality and cares about access to quality education, housing affordability, protecting the local environment, investing in local schools and hospitals, and improving public transport.
As a local mum, I understand the challenges facing families in Rockingham. I’m proud to be part of the Roger Cook Labor Government that is investing in upgrades to our local schools, expanding tourism opportunities in Rockingham, and improving our hospital and road networks.
As the Member for Rockingham, and a Waikiki local, I'm working hard to deliver for the community and build on Labor's proud legacy of providing and improving opportunities available to all.
There's always more to be done, and I am committed to delivering for our community, because I will always deliver for Rockingham and do what's right for WA.
