Plans to deliver a new 10-bed Mental Health Emergency Centre at Rockingham General Hospital are moving ahead, with a tender released to appoint a contractor to deliver the project.

This project will support the establishment of a dedicated Behavioural Assessment Urgent Care Centre designed to improve clinical outcomes for patients experiencing acute behavioural disturbances, often associated with alcohol and/or drug use.

The new facility will include:

• Eight-bed short stay unit located adjacent to the Emergency Department (ED), providing focused care in a safe and appropriate environment.
• Two-bed Behavioural Assessment Unit directly linked to the ED, offering rapid intervention for patients in a state of acute behavioural disturbance.

The service model is based on the principles of delivering the right care, by the right team, in the right place, at the right time. This approach will deliver:

• More integrated and patient-centred care at Rockingham Hospital.
• Improved access to high-quality treatment, closer to home.

This commitment builds on the further investments the Cook Labor government has made in WA health and hospitals, including a record $5.5 billion health infrastructure program to significantly boost capacity.

The tender closes on 28 May 2026.
