Sport and Recreation

From a young age, I’ve had a deep passion for community sport and the incredible sense of belonging and connection it brings. Local sporting clubs are the heart of our neighbourhoods — building friendships, encouraging healthy lifestyles, and helping our young people grow in confidence and resilience.

At the 2023 By-Election, I was proud to have secured my first election commitment of $10 million to redevelop and expand the Mike Barnett Sports Complex. $2.5 million has already been delivered in ventilation & roofing upgrades, as well as indoor resurfacing. The remaining funding is available for when the City of Rockingham commences the complex expansion project.

At the most recent election, I was able to secure over $650,000 in funding for our local grassroots clubs — to ensure they have the facilities, equipment and support they need to thrive.

Here’s what I’m delivering for our community:

  • $200,000 for the Rockingham Rams Baseball Club – supporting facility upgrades and equipment to grow participation across all age groups.
  • $160,000 for the Safety Bay Tennis Club – improving court surfaces and amenities to ensure the club remains a welcoming and accessible place for players of all levels.
  • $110,000 for the Rockingham BMX Club – helping maintain a safe and high-quality track that supports the club’s growth and success in local and state competitions.
  • $75,000 for the Safety Bay Stingers Football Club – contributing to improved infrastructure and support for junior and senior teams alike.
  • $75,000 for the Rockingham Rams Football & Netball Club – enhancing facilities and resources to support the club’s expansion and community engagement.
  • $20,000 for the Warnbro Strikers Soccer Club – providing essential support for player development and community outreach programs.
  • $15,000 for the Rockingham Raptors Teeball Association – ensuring young players have the equipment and space they need to learn and enjoy the game.

Local sports clubs do more than just play games — they shape lives. They teach teamwork, discipline and resilience, and they bring together families and neighbours from all walks of life.

As your local member, I’m committed to backing our community clubs every step of the way. I’ll always fight to deliver the funding and support our local sporting organisations need to keep doing what they do best: bringing people together and building a stronger, healthier Rockingham.

Across Western Australia, the Cook Labor Government is committed to making sport more accessible, inclusive, and better resourced — no matter where you live. This incudes delivering programs and infrastructure to support grassroots sport such as:

  • 🏟️ The Community Sporting and Recreation Facilities Fund (CSRFF) – providing millions in grants to build and upgrade local clubrooms, change rooms, lighting and playing surfaces across WA, with a strong focus on supporting women’s participation and inclusive facilities.
  • 🧢 KidSport – helping thousands of WA families each year by covering registration fees so kids can join their local club, removing cost barriers and making sure every child has the chance to be part of a team.
  • 👟 Active Regional Communities (ARC) Grants Program – supporting remote and regional communities with access to coaches, competitions and sporting events, so everyone has the opportunity to get active and stay connected.
  • 👩‍🦽 Inclusion and Diversity in Sport – funding programs that increase opportunities for women, people with disability, and culturally and linguistically diverse communities to get involved in sport — on and off the field.
  • 🏃 Every Club Grant Scheme – helping local sporting organisations build strong governance, grow their membership and better support volunteers through training, tools and resources.

These statewide initiatives are about more than just sport — they’re about fairness, inclusion, and ensuring every Western Australian, regardless of age, ability or background, can reap the benefits of being active and part of a community.
