Everyone has the right to live in a good home. WA and Rockingham really is the best place in the world to live.

That's why the Cook Labor Government is throwing everything at the issue - building more homes, freeing up land, reducing stamp duty and growing the construction workforce.

Since 2021, we've made a record $3.2 billion into our nation leading housing plan, which is already fast-tracking approvals, unlocking more land, and getting more homes built faster.

The Cook Labor Government's nation leading housing plan has:

  • Delivered more than 2,900 social homes with more than 1,000 under contract or construction - the equivalent of a new suburb.
  • Reduced Keystart Interest rates which has saved customers thousands of dollars on interest payments, and raised the maximum property price for a low-deposit Keystart loan - giving more WA families more options to get a loan for a new home.
  • Supported more than 2,000 families across WA at risk of eviction through the WA Rent Relief Program. Giving tenants at risk of eviction up to $5,000 in direct rental support – with more support ongoing.
  • Boosted our construction workforce by helping small and medium businesses with the cost of taking on apprentices and offering $1,000 rebates to apprentices to help pay for tools, growing our construction workforce and getting homes built faster.
  • Made renting fairer by banning rent bidding, reducing the frequency of rent increases, and allowing tenants to make minor modifications to their home.
  • Expanded the State Government’s Homeless Engagement, Assessment and Response Team (HEART) service to Rockingham, helping highly vulnerable people transition from homelessness into safe accommodation and housing.
  • Committed $130 million to increase stamp duty thresholds for first homebuyers and multi-residential projects.
  • Raised the stamp duty exemption threshold for first home buyers who won’t pay any stamp duty on a house valued up to $500,000. They will also save money on stamp duty for homes valued up to $700,000 in Perth or Peel, or $750,000 outside those regions.
