The Cook Labor Government is making record investments in health and mental health across WA.
Since 2021, we've made a record health and mental health investment, with an unprecedented $14.3 billion in new funding. As a result, Western Australia has the highest level of health funding per person of any state in the nation.
Because we've managed the economy well, we've been able to give WA the best-funded hospital system in the country and as a result we're seeing our health system stabilise following the significant disruption of the pandemic.
We'll also build a new world-class Women's and Babies Hospital at Murdoch - putting specialist healthcare closer to Rockingham families.
I know that Rockingham locals put their trust in our local Rockingham General Hospital for their health care needs. Which is why I’m proud that since 2021, we have:
- Added 30 new beds to Rockingham Hospital, and over 800 beds across WA - the equivalent of a new tertiary hospital.
- Open an Urgent Care Clinic in Rockingham in partnership with the Albanese Labor Government - providing free GP appointments for Medicare card holders.
- Established an Emergency Department Musculoskeletal clinic at Rockingham Hospital which has reduced the length of stay in ED by 75%.
- Secured funding to deliver a Mental Health Emergency Centre and Behavioural Assessment Urgent Care Centre at Rockingham Hospital.
- Following patient feedback, opened the Women's Outpatient Centre at Rockingham Hospital.
- $300,000 for a new birthing pool at Rockingham Hospital, providing more birthing options for local women.
Western Australians can trust the Cook Labor Government to invest in a health system that puts patients first. We're delivering:
Expanding Hospital Capacity and Infrastructure. We've added more than 800 hospital beds in the last three years-the equivalent of a new Fiona Stanley Hospital-with more beds on the way. Our $3.3 billion investment in health infrastructure includes major redevelopments at hospitals right across WA.
We'll also deliver a world-class Women and Babies Hospital at the Fiona Stanley Hospital precinct and expand maternity services at Osborne Park Hospital. This includes 2,000 new car bays and improved birthing and maternity options.
Strengthening the Health Workforce. Despite global shortages, our government has grown the health workforce by over 30%:
- More than 4,400 new nurses
- Over 1,800 new doctors
We're also introducing nurse and midwife-to-patient ratios, starting at Perth Children's Hospital Emergency Department.
Improving Emergency Care. The Cook Labor Government will upgrade emergency departments across WA:
- A major expansion at Royal Perth Hospital will more than double its ED capacity
- Midland Health Campus will gain nearly 50% more treatment bays and a new ambulance drop-off zone
- Expanding the WA Virtual Emergency Department (WAVED) to include child health services and regional rollout
Reducing Ramping and Surgery Wait Times. Ambulance response times are improving, with WA now the best-performing ambulance service in the country and a 22.5% reduction in ramping hours in 2023-24. We've also reduced elective surgery wait times by 32% in the past two years and are performing record numbers of surgeries.
Better Access to ADHD Care and GPs. We're making ADHD care more accessible by supporting GPs to diagnose and treat patients. We're also partnering with the Albanese Government to deliver eight Medicare Urgent Care Clinics and incentivising doctors to live and work in the regions.
